McCabe's Gourmet Market and Made By Hand International Cooperative in South Bethany Beach to Cut the Ribbon on Their New Solar System this Friday at 10:00am – 11:30am
Join us this Friday, September 23 at 10:00am - 11:30am to cut the ribbon on two new solar projects at the York Beach Mall in South Bethany Beach, Delaware.
McCabe's Gourmet and Made By Hand International Cooperative both recently completed, self ballasted, roof mounted solar systems for their businesses.
Owners of the systems will be on hand to show you their new power bills and discuss how this investment will help their business, reduce their power bills and reduce carbon emissions.
“Made By Hand installed a 4.2KW solar system which will produce about half of the power they need to run their shop, however the savings combined with the income from SREC’s will almost wash out their annual power expenditures and probably even make them cash,” says John Donato, energy consultant with Flexera.
The festivities will begin at 10:00 with coffee and treats from McCabe’s Gourmet Market. This will be followed by words from McCabe’s business owner Richard Mais, Made by Hand International Cooperative’s owner Kimberly Grimes and representatives from Flexera, Inc who designed and installed the system.
McCabe’s Gourmet Market installed 66 Delaware made Motech solar panels equaling a total of 13.8 KW in solar power. The systems are self ballasted, meaning they do not need to be bolted to the roof because their design keeps them firmly in place without penetrations.
“Both systems lived up to their wind speed ratings of 120 MPH and performed perfectly during hurricane Irene,” says John Donato, Flexera Energy Consultant for the projects.
Guests are being encouraged to bring their power bills for a free energy assessment from Flexera’s energy consultants to see if there are ways they can reduce their energy use and save money on their power bills.
"Both businesses specifically chose solar and efficiency to reduce their dependency on fossil fuel and to protect their operating costs from future energy increases" said Donato,. “Both systems are designed to pay for themselves in 3 – 4 years and the environmental benefits are tremendous.”
Donato also points out, “Another unique point is that Made by Hand International Cooperative plans on passing their savings and income through to their charitable beneficiaries. This is a truly magnificent strategy on their part and a very responsible step as a local business owner planning for the future.”
This event is free and open to the public. Parking is free. McCabe’s and Made by hand are both located on the corner of York Road and Coastal highway at the York Beach Mall in South Bethany Beach Delaware.
